Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the attack left him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
